Supply Pressure Index

The index is a weighted composite from 0 to 100. Higher scores indicate conditions that may translate into upward pressure on wholesale and retail fuel prices.

  • 30% Retail price velocity (7-day metro ULP change)
  • 25% Import volume trend (MoM petrol/diesel)
  • 20% Fuel security days-of-cover vs minimum
  • 15% Port congestion proxy (notices + import lag)
  • 10% Wholesale proxy (benchmark + AUD trend)

  • Low: 020
  • Moderate: 2140
  • Elevated: 4160
  • High: 6180
  • Critical: 81100

Import Arrival Monitor

Scheduled arrivals are compiled from public port authority notices and DCCEEW trade statistics. We do not use live AIS vessel tracking or commercial maritime APIs.

  • ABS International Trade in Goods (HS 27 petroleum)
  • Victoria FairFuel Open Data (retail price velocity)
  • Port of Melbourne, NSW Ports, Port of Brisbane, Fremantle Ports public notices
  • Reserve Bank of Australia exchange rate data

Update cadence

  • Retail-linked components: hourly when live FairFuel data is available
  • Port notices and import schedules: daily cron + weekly editorial review
  • APS import statistics: monthly (official release schedule)
  • Fuel security indicators: quarterly or when DCCEEW publishes updates
